Some Comments on Bernard's Performances

“Bernard Carney is a great all-round musician in the tradition of the folk troubadour. He has a unique talent as songwriter, guitarist and singer all peppered with passion and humour”

Port Fairy Festival Director Jamie McKew when presenting Bernard with the prestigious Artist of the Year award at Port Fairy Festival 2003

“You knew you were in the presence of genius when you realised, after splitting  your sides in laughter, that suddenly you'd been transported to sublime and rapt attention as a  love song, or a lullaby, were crooned out softly by a word wizard accompanied on sensitive  and exquisite guitar”.

Larry Winger         Northumbrian music nights UK 2000

“Songs of love and memory are bittersweet explorations of human emotion sung with a kind of melodic elegance that is the hall mark of a good song.”

Ron Banks West Australian 2003

“His immaculate ragtime based finger picking  has got smoother and swingier; the voice has rounded and matured like a well kept cab sav and his musical vocabulary has expanded without ever getting detached from its roots... Bernard has become a major influence on guitarists and songwriters around Australia.”

Fairbridge festival Director Steve Barnes 2003

“Carney is an extremely affable personality and he engages his audience with a warmth and wit that make it hard to imagine anyone not enjoying his show”   ……….. Songs of depth, substance and emotional power

Marshall Hughes   Hong Kong Fringe Club 2000

“Bernard’s is a warm and friendly style, the musical equivalent of a hug with a funny punch line”

“You’ll instantly appreciate his tremendous gift as a songwriter, and flawless guitar style”

Buzz Magazine   UK  2000

“Carney’s clever lyrics pinpoint both the ridiculousness and beauty which makes up humanity, and his intimate style immediately draws an audience into his quirky world.  More musicians should take themselves this less seriously”.

Waikato Times Review  Hamilton  New Zealand.  1999

“Bernard Carney (Australia) was a world class act and one of the hardest working guests I've seen. From Scott Joplin Rags, wine snobs ("Wine Wankers") and the joys and sorrows of parenting he won the hearts of all those who attended”

Cardrona Festival   New Zealand  1999

A very big well done to Carole for booking Bernard Carney. What a treat we all had at the end of his tour before going back to Australia. - Great, Great performer, songwriter and his humour made a superb night with the addition of his family and a packed audience. I for one hope it won't be too long before he is on tour again as he is a certain must for all to see and enjoy as we at the Waveney did.

Rosemarie Barnard -  . Waveney Folk Club Lowestoft, Suffolk 2004

“An Englishman living in Australia a very clever and wordy song smith with a talent for the guitar as well”

Della Hook Red Lion Folk Club Birmingham 2004
